Head of Linguistics at the University of Ghana, Professor Kofi Agyekum, popularly called ‘Opanyin Agyekum’, has called for a peaceful and violent-free Regional elections by the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The NPP will on Saturday, May 28, 2022 hold Regional elections to elect their Regional executives.
The Regional elections will be followed by National Executives elections in July, then the party will later go to primaries to elect a Presidential candidate ahead of the 2024 general elections.
As the party preps to hold its Regional elections, Opanyin Agyekum sends his well-wishes to the various aspirants but warns that the elections should not end up in violent confrontations.
According to him, it will leave a dent on the image of the party should some persons be harmed during and after the elections.
“What I don’t want to hear is that, by the end of the elections on Saturday, there will be reports of people hacking others with a knife or someone being harmed . . . you must let truth prevail so as the loser will accept his/her loss and the winner will know he/she won,” he said during Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”.
