Nkoranza South MP renews call for Albert Donkor’s death to be investigated.

Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza South, is demanding for an independent investigation into the death of Albert Donkor, a suspect who died in police custody.

It is, he believes, the only way to resolve the contentious subject.

Dr Akuffo-Damapre, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has instructed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to investigate the killing, prompting the Nkoranza South MP’s request.

According to a statement released by DCOP Kwesi Ofori, Director-General, Public Affairs Directorate of the Police, the deceased and a group of five accomplices were involved in multiple armed robbery crimes in the region, armed robbery attacks at Nkoranza on April 19 and 20, 2022.

An operation was carried out based on this intelligence, during which Albert, a 28-year-old male, was shot. He was brought to the Holy Family Hospital for treatment, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

However, Hon. Agyekum claims that the police are being stingy with the truth.

He added that the family simply wants an independent autopsy to determine the cause of death since “the police cannot be trusted to perform a proper job.”

“Right now, the most essential issue is Albert’s justice.” Most of the points mentioned by the police are untrustworthy, which is why we are demanding for an independent investigation,” he remarked on Okay FM in Accra.

Albert was killed between three and four hours after he was picked up by roughly six armed police personnel, according to the Nkoranza South MP.

He urged the Nkoranza people and Ghanaians to seek Albert Donkor’s justice.

“If Ghanaians were able to demand justice for George Floyd, who was imprisoned in the United States, then it is time for us to do the same for our own.” He warned that “Nkoranza natives from all over the world, as well as the entire populace, must join the struggle for justice.”
