I became a bitter person because of my father – a US-based Ghanaian

US-based Ghanaian Adwoa Manfo has disclosed that her parents’ separation made her a bitter person, but she had to listen to her father’s reasons for his absence after her mum died.

In a chat on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Miss Manfo mentioned that their separation affected her. However, she had to let go of the pain and bitterness.

“They were young when they had me. My grandfather flew my mother to London after I was born, and she came back years later. Girls are greatly affected when their fathers are absent. In a way, I was a bitter person, but I also wanted to understand why it happened.

Sometimes, you need to let things go and forgive because he is my father. I’m starting to have a good relationship with him. We don’t talk often, but I do what I have to as a daughter, and he does the same,” she said.

Speaking on marriage, Miss Manfo mentioned that most people abroad do not marry for love. According to her, 70% of marriages in the US are to support each other and pay bills and rent.

“That is why many of us get a divorce because they don’t go in for love. For me, I didn’t want to give birth to different men, and living separately is expensive.”
