The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has shut down the East Legon branch of popular food eatery Marwako Fast Food after a widespread complaint claimed they were serving food poisoned to customers.
Ghanaians on Twitter slammed Marwako, an Accra fast-food restaurant after one user named Edward Elohim complained of food poisoning after dining there.
According to Edward Elohim, the fast-food restaurant gave him and several other persons food poisoning, resulting in their admission to the Nyaho medical center.
Other people who found themselves in the same position after purchasing their meals last week backed up his claim.
The viral tweets have caused outrage over the incident, with the latest development culminating in the Food and Drugs Authority moving quickly to shut down the restaurant.
The FDA in a tweet said: “The FDA has taken notice of complaints from the public about the suspected food poisoning at the East Legon Branch of Marwarko Restaurant. We have closed down the restaurant and together with other relevant agencies, started investigations.”
“We wish to assure the public that the issue would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate actions are taken. Additionally, FDA is ensuring the strict implementation of its protocols to prevent any further harm to the public.”
