Some mainstream female Ghanaian celebs have stormed Twitter to register their utmost disgust about the Electronic Transfer Levy, widely known as e-levy and how some unlawfully deductions have been effected on their prepaid ECG prepaid card.
It was Lydia who began the conversation when she revealed how she was ‘robbed’ in broad day light after making a purchase with her card which hitherto had never happened before.
She said: “Bought electricity yesterday and went through the same, paid Gh 7 to the platform charge ( using the app) and GH 9 in Elevy. Then a deduction of GH 7 for the electrify I paid for. So GH 23 for getting light. It might not be anything to some, but ALOT to me.”
Former Citi FM on air personality, Jessica Opare-Saforo quickly grabbed the thread with her furious hands and chipped in sentiments tailored along the same tangent.

Jessy said she could not believe she had to pay ₵13.50 for a ₵500 transaction.
“Sent 500ghc using my bank app to someone this morning. I was charged Ghc 13.50 for the transaction. WTF! Hmmm,” her tweet read.

Before the two women made this known, the Yaa Asantewaa of our time, Yvonne Nelson had mentioned that the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo “lured Ghanaians” with “big English” before he became President but has woefully failed to deliver on his gargantuan promises.
The government of Ghana on May 1, rolled out the E-Levy policy which was passed in Parliament on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 despite the overwhelming opposition form Ghanaians.
The government had insisted the implementation of the 1.5% value tax on all electronic transactions above ₵100 is to enhance domestic tax mobilization and expand the tax base as well as to provide an opportunity for everyone to contribute toward national development.
