How old is Anderson Silva? Bio, age, career record, stats, title fights for former UFC champion

Since diving into the world of boxing, Anderson Silva has competed in some interesting fights. He adds another bout to his resume when he faces off against Bruno Machado on May 14. 

The fight will be held on the Burj Al Arab Hotel helipad in Dubai. The main event will be Floyd Mayweather vs. Don Moore in an exhibition bout.  

Silva, an MMA legend, is a former UFC middleweight champion. Boxing has become his latest passion since leaving MMA. He will look to once again show off his skills to a different audience.

How old is Anderson Silva? 

Silva is 47. “The Spider” started training in jiu-jitsu when he was a child in Brazil. He then later transitioned to training in taekwondo, capoeira, and muay thai.

Silva made his pro debut in 1997. Competing for Mecca and Shooto, he won the the Shooto middleweight title in 2001. Joining PRIDE in 2002, Silva was 3-2 with the promotion. He became Cage Rage middleweight champion in 2004, and defended the title three times.  

In 2006, Silva joined the UFC. He beat Chris Leben via KO in his debut bout and went on to beat Rich Franklin to win the UFC middleweight title. From ’06-12, Silva went on a legendary run. He successfully defended the title 10 times. During his 16-fight win streak, Silva either submitted or took out fighters like Dan Henderson, Forrest Griffin, Demian Maia, Chael Sonnen, Vitor Belfort, and Stephan Bonnar. 

Since 2013, however, Silva’s MMA run took a little detour. After losing the middleweight title against Chris Weidman at UFC 262, Silva has gone 1-6 with one no-contest. Injuries, age, and surgeries affected his career. Silva’s last fight was a TKO loss against Uriah Hal in October 2020. He was later released from his UFC contract.

In 2021, Silva returned to boxing. He last fought in the sport in 1998 and ’05, going 1-1. Silva beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in dominant fashion in Mexico. In his last fight in September, Silva knocked out former MMA fighter Tito Ortiz in the first round. 

On the Mayweather-Moore undercard, Silva faces off against Machado. Machado is a former MMA fighter with a 15-9 record. He last fought in January 2021, beating Mickael Lebout for UAE Warriors. This will be the next major step for Machado in the combat sports world.

  • Start time: 2 p.m. ET 
  • Main event: 5 p.m. ET (approximately) 

Floyd Mayweather vs. Don Moore will take place Saturday, May 14. The main card will start at 2 p.m. ET. The main event should begin around 5 p.m. ET, depending on how long the undercard fights last.
