The Ghana Premier League is the top professional association football division of the football league system in Ghana.
Officially formed in 1956 to replace a previous league incarnation, the Gold Coast Club Competition (which began in 1933 and ended in 1953–54). According to popular opinion by the masses, it is believed that a vast majority of the players don’t earn quite well in the premier league.
However this presumptive idea has been rebuffed by Shaban Mahammed, a seasoned sports journalist and presenter at Oman FM, Atinka TV and also Atinka FM.
According to him there can be negative comments about the Ghana Premier League but the truth is some of these players are earning quite well; as high as 7k to 10k and more.Â
He writes;
“You can write your negative comments about the Ghana Premier League but the truth is that some players are earning good cash but they won’t tell you.
Some take 7k, 8k, 9k, 10k and more.Â
A player was negotiating to extend his stay with his club and wanted 5k whiles the team wanted to pay 4k.
I believe we can do more but we have improved in player salaries in the last 3 years.
More positive news”.
He made this revelation on his social media handle, specifically Facebook, where he presents up to date statistics of the premier league. He believes more can be done but the Ghana Premier League have improved in player salaries in the last 3 years.
