The host of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV, Paul Adom Otchere was one of the guests on The Key Points show on TV3 this morning.Â
Speaking about the issue of media independence in the country, Paul Adom Otchere brilliantly suggested a way that will enable media in Ghana generate more revenue and also be independent.
He revealed that Ghanaians are watching TV3 for free but that should not be the case. He explained that TV3 should be able to generate over ¢5 million each day with their various programs. He suggested that the National Media Commission should create a decoder where “important” shows on various television stations will be showed at a fee. This means Ghanaians who love to watch shows like Date Rush, The Key Points, etc will pay to watch such programs.
“This morning, people are watching you for free. It will not happen in England. It doesn’t happen in America. What we have been doing at the NCA in that develop a decoder for Ghanaian television and give an option on that decoder for pay TV” he said
Paul Adom Otchere revealed that most parts of the world are doing same and it is time for Ghana to follow such steps.
