On Asempa FM, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa calls out the Attorney General, Godfred Dame for organizing a press conference to accuse the plaintiffs in the E-LEVY case of propaganda. According to Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, one is not allowed to make such in a court case especially when the court has not decided on the substantive matter.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa and Hon. Mahama Ayariga are in court to repeal the controversial E-LEVY on the basis that the numbers in parliament at the time the E-LEVY was passed didn’t satisfy the constitution. The plaintiffs were also seeking an injunction on the E-LEVY but that request was thrown out by the court on the 4th May 2022. The substantive matter of whether the passage of the E-LEVY satisfied the constitution is yet to be decided upon.
However, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa on Asempa FM has stated that the Attorney General who is the leader of the bar has made certain comments that are contemptuous to the case at hand. He recalled two statements of the Attorney General where the Attorney General stated categorically that the plaintiffs have no evidence and where he again stated that the lawyer of the plaintiffs is an embarrassing spectacle. According to Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, these are not the comments the state’s Attorney General should be making.
Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa went on to state unequivocally that they have evidence to back their case and warned the Attorney General to be careful because power is transient. He advised that the Attorney General should stop his unethical conduct and breaching of the rules which are in clear contempt of the court just because he is the Attorney General.
