Accra Hearts of Oak have shared spoils with Bechem United after playing a 1 – 1 draw at Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem. Francis Acquah grabbed the lead for home side Bechem United but Seidu Surah cancelled it out for the defending league champions.
Bechem United – following the drawn game – sit second on the league table with 47 points while Accra Hearts of Oak are third with 44 points.
Bechem United did not cave in to an early pressure from visitors Accra Hearts of Oak as they had their first corner but was grabbed by goalkeeper Richard Attah after it was effected.
Clinton Duodu came through with a first shot on target for Bechem United but Accra Hearts of Oak were saved by goalkeeper Richard Attah. That did not put a stop to a blistering attack from the host as Augustine Okrah powered a direct shot at goal which was tipped over for a corner kick and it was wasted.
Accra Hearts of Oak bounced back with swift passes which found Daniel Afriyie Barnieh as the last man but he was fouled by goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu and resulting kick was saved. The rainbow club made another move with Daniel Afriyie Barnieh tapping in a Seidu Suraj’s cross but was pushed to corner and the kick wasted.Â
Bechem United regrouped and managed to push men forward for the first goal after a corner kick was taken. Francis Acquah positioned himself to tap home the ball after a corner was delivered. It came in the 30th minutes.Â
As they trailed by a goal, Accra Hearts of Oak decided to take possession of events but lacked the instinct to score. Daniel Afriyie Barnieh kept his composure to lay a direct pass to Seidu Suraj, who was quick to beat Bechem United’s defenders and looped the ball over goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu in the 45th minutes.Â
First half ended with goals from Francis Acquah and Seidu Suraj of Bechem United and Accra Hearts of Oak respectively.
Following the commencement of the second half, Accra Hearts of Oak appeared determined as Gladson Awako and Frederick Ansah Botchway bossed the middle with Seidu Suraj and Daniel Afriyie Barnieh pushing for the second goal.
In hunt of the winning goal, the two coaches effected varied substitutions but were cautious in their approach as they asked their defenders to sit deep.
The next ten minutes was fully dominated by the visitors with an attractive display, weaving passes and making vital moves but the needed goal continued to be elude them.
The entire proceedings were wrapped up with a goal apiece.
