Paul Adom Otchere seemed to have his day on TV3’s Saturday Morning as he met Suleman Braimah on “TV3’s Key points”. The topic for discussion hosted by sensational presenter, Dzifa Bampoe was’ a free fall from the alter of Press Freedom? ‘.
When Dzifa Bampoe complained about the imbalance of government advertising on some media stations, Paul Adom Otchere likened the Media house to a football club and he added that if a football club does not stand out, it does not get patronised. Paul
According to Franklin Cudjoe who spoke via zoom, agreed with Paul that media houses should invest in the discussion of deeper issues in order to enable them generate revenue on their own. The media has to divert their attention to generate revenue and Paul was right.
The Executive Director of Imani Africa did not agree with Paul on how journalists must not be provocative but their security must be underplayed. Franklin cited an example of the abuse or man handling of Citi TV’s Caleb. He encouraged that government should properly resource the National Media Commission whilst the NMC must also be up and doing.
In response to what the other panelists have said, Paul said he was beaten in 2004 at the NDC congress and Afia Pokua, also known as the Vim lady has also been attacked previously during the NDC Era.
On the show when Suleman Braimah raised issues concerning the discriminate deregulation of some media houses, Paul Adom explained that it was not the case in Ghana . He further lectured Suleman Braimah on why regulation of media houses was necessary. He exclaimed that ,just like oil companies are regulated, media is also a privileged industry and deserves to be regulated to fish out those firms who are not complying with the laid down laws .
Paul further explained that , if Ghana’s downgrade at the recent press freedom ranking is a result of the NCA taking action on some media houses , then that was wrong because a court of competent jurisdiction presided by Justice Professor Dateh Baah ruled that the NCA was right . Paul Adom Otchere explained that Media houses must not take press freedom for granted but must comply with laws as well.
Many Ghanaians all over the world have applauded Paul Adom Otchere on his excellent delivery on the show and have asked that he keeps it up . In fact , the hostess Dzifa Bampoe deserves to receive some applause for allowing the show to be a haven for providing quality information. She actually looked on as Paul Adom provided series of lectures on her show . We are sure she did that because the Good Evening Ghana Host and Metro TV Journalist is championing a good course .
