Ghanaian lawyer and former journalist, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has revealed that the era his life was under serious threat as a journalist was under the New Patriotic Party government.
He said as an editor of a newspaper, the time he feared for his life was under President Kufour’s first term- the era of the repeal of the criminal libel law.
According to him, the threats and assaults which he endured as a journalist were all from opposition activists incensed by his writing and .
“Significantly, however, the threats and actual assaults which I endured as a journalist were all from opposition activists incensed by my writings and .” Part of his statement read
He said he was under 24hour armed protection but he chose not to make noise about it. He endured it quietly and continued his good works.
“Yes, the era my life was under threat as a journalist was under an NPP government. But the threats and attacks I endured were from opposition elements!” He categorically stated
He said he knew talking about those things could have gotten him into real trouble with the law.
