The Executive Director of Africa Educational Watch, Mr. Kofi Asare has sent a message that if people know that they can’t stand criticism, they should not campaign to be president.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Thursday, 5th May 2022, he wrote;
“A MESSAGE TO THOSE ASPIRING TO LEAD GHANA.
If you know you can’t stand criticism, stop campaigning to be president.Â
It’s not by force to be president if you don’t meet the tolerance criteria.Â
For we shall not vote you into office to worship you!”
The comments of Mr. Kofi Asare comes as a background to the several criticism directed to the government when Reporters Without Borders released rankings for Press Freedom. According to the report Ghana placed 60th position in 2022 press freedom. In 2021 Ghana’s position was 30th.
In separate post today, Kofi Asare’s wrote;
“So apart from FIFA Rankings, every report about Ghana is suddenly inaccurate? If you want to harvest rice, why do you keep sowing beans? Why sweat to defend when you can prevent?”.
Hon. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, the Minister of Information has defended the reason for the drop in Press Freedom. According to him, it’s not the picture Ghanaians are painting as of journalism is under attack in Ghana. In a release, he said it’s because of the new Methodology used by Reporters Without Borders that affected Ghana negatively in the ranking.
