I Have Been Doing Journalism Since Kufuor And Akufo-Addo’s Era Is The ‘Worse’ For Journalists

There have been so many questions raised about press freedom in the country. Government communicators have argued that the Akufo-Addo era has presented the most conducive environment for journalists to operate. They have insisted that a human rights lawyer like President Akufo-Addo has been the best president when it comes to guaranteeing press freedom in the country.

Many others feel otherwise and have criticized the government for not tolerating other views. Indeed, the latest index released by the World Press Index has pushed Ghana lower the rankings to 60th, something the country has never seen in the last 17 years. In a Facebook post, Manasseh Azure, an award winning journalist has noted that since he began working as a journalist since the time of Kufuor, the most oppressive government when it comes to journalism is the Akufo-Addo government.

Manasseh has indicated in many interviews that even after doing the Mahama Ford expose, Omane Boamah of the NDC called to provide him with security. Yet, a government he defended has turned to be the most oppressive. Manasseh has been a serious critic of the government and it is alleged that he once flew to South Africa to save his life from the NPP government. Check out some of the reactions on the post.
