Another 7-0 Verdict As Supreme Court Overrules Decision From NDC To Place Injunction on E-Levy

The Supreme Court today Wednesday, May 4, 2022 ruled on a writ brought before it by the NDC. The NDC walked out of Parliament as the house got ready to pass the e-levy. This walk out ensured that the Majority passed the bill without any hindrance. The Minority however came back to say that the Majority didn’t have the numbers to have passed the bill.

The Minority led by Okudzeto Ablakwa, Haruna Iddrisu and Mahama Ayariga filed a writ at the apex court. Despite the case being in court, the government went on to implement the electronic levy. The NDC filed a writ and called for an injunction on the passage of the levy. In the ruling that took place today all 7 judges ruled that the NDC case lacked merit and dismissed the plea for an injunction on the levy.

The e-levy took off on May 1 and has been characterized with some difficulties which the authorities claim they are working on. In a presentation this week, John Mahama the flagbearer of the NDC in 2012, 2016 and 2020 promised to repeal the e-levy if the NDC is voted into power in 2024.
