Back in the 2015/2016 season, Liverpool had an encounter with Villarreal in the Europa League semifinals and won by 3-1 on aggregates advancing to the finals which they lost to Sevilla by 3-1.
And once again these two sides were drawn against each other in this season’s UEFA Champions League (UCL) semifinals with Liverpool already an edge over two goals advanced after beating them in the first leg at Anfield.
The ‘Yellow Submarine’ prior to this encounter have a record against the ‘Reds’ at home grounds and intend to keep at all cost being one of the underestimated teams, they proved every critic wrong by ruling three of Europe’s finest – Atalanta, Juventus, and Bayern Munchen out of the competition.
The ‘Reds’ this season have made one declaration known as ‘hard to beat’ which is evident in the competition so far, losing once thus against Inter Milan at home.
A step closer to the finals the unexpected and the expected can happen especially on trips and comparing Villarreal’s winning percentage in the first leg to the second leg, there is an increase by half ahead of today’s clash keeping track of their home record in 12-outings (W8, D4). Already Liverpool have the edge, however, it’s not the end of the journey, especially against a side with a solid home record.
How well do you think Liverpool will resist today?.
