Some Prominent Ghanaian Women Who Entered Or Are In Interfaith Marriages.

Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu

Lawyer and Politician Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu was Ghana’s First Female Attorney General and Minister of Justice. She was also Minister of Education under the late Ghanaian President, H.E John Evans Atta Mills.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party, Mrs. Mould-Iddrisu, a activist is married to Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu who is a Muslim.

Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu who was a member of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) is also a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He is one of Ghana’s longest serving Minister of Defence under the reign of late President, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings. He also currently serves as the Chairman of the Council of Elders of the party.

Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu is Catholic and the sister of Mr. Alex Mould, who was the former CEO of National Petroleum Authority and CEO of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) between 2009 and 2017.

Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson

A Teacher by profession and Politician, Mavis Hawa Koomson is currently Ghana’s Minister of Fisheries, and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East Constituency since 2013. She served as Minister of Special Development Initiatives in the first term of Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo.

Hawa Koomson married as a Muslim with her maiden name being Hawa Abdulai to a Methodist. She later converted and joined her husband to fellowship with the Methodist Church.

Selassie Ibrahim

Selassie Ibrahim is a veteran actress, film producer and CEO of Smarttys Productions. She is also the Executive Director of Jabneel Impact, an NGO which helps bring sustainable livelihood to the vunerable (widows and orphans) in the Volta and Northern part of Ghana.

Selassie who is from the Volta Region is married to a Muslim, Alhaji Ibrahim Adam, who was the Member of Parliament for Choggo Tishigu Constituency from 1997 to 2001.

The Agriculturist/Farmer was Minister of Agriculture under late President J.J Rawlings and former board chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).

Menaye Donkor

Born to an Ashanti Mother and Fante Father, Menaye Donkor is an entrepreneur, former model and beauty queen who was crowned 2004 Miss Universe Ghana.

She is the wife of Ghanaian footballer Sulley Muntari, who they first met in Germany 2006 during the world cup through an introduction by her cousin Ama K. Abebrese. They got married in December 2010.

Sulley, a Muslim born and bred in Konongo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana has played for both local and international clubs to include Portsmouth, AC Milan, Udinese, Sunderland etc. He has appeared in three world cups in Germany 2006, South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014. He currently plays for Accra Hearts of Oak.
