Meet Ofarnyi Kwegya Who Came From Egypt And His Name Was Given To Late Ata Mills As An Honour.

In the year 2009, the late Ata Mills was honored with the title Ofarnyi Kwegya. This title was given by the fisherfolks from Elmina for his contribution to the fishing industry in Ghana.

Now, Let’s meet Ofarnyi Kwegya who arrived in ancient Ghana from Egypt. His name was what was bestowed as an honor on our late President Ata Mills.

According to history, Ofarnyi Kwegya was part of the Asebu Amanfi group that arrived in ancient Ghana from Egypt.

He was noted for his great fishing expedition. Oral history has it that, nobody in ancient Ghana or modern Ghana has been able to equalise the fishing prowess of Ofarnyi Kwegya. He could catch huge fishes with his bare hands.

He was also noted for his involvement in the settlement of the current Moree township. Due to his love for fishing, he refused to relocate into the Deep forest despite the numerous war attacks from detractors. He then settled his own village called MOWRE or MORULE which grew bigger into modern day Moree township.

Well, the late Ata Mills was lucky to be honored with such a name. It wasn’t by mistake because he was worth it.

Check out the statue of Ofarnyi Kwegya which was unveiled at Moree in his honor and a screenshot sampling his life activities before death.
