You Are My Elder Brother But You Can’t Say That To Me – Ablakwa Tells Former NPP MP

There have been so much questions raised about whether local level elections, assembly representatives, DCEs and MMDCEs should be based on political lines or not. President Akufo-Addo had pointed out that by giving it a partisan appeal it will broaden the political terrain. Indeed, Johnson Asiedu Nketia on one of his deliveries had also said same. However, this has been rejected by many Ghanaians and in a CDD report survey over 70% of Ghanaians rejected this move by Akufo-Addo.

Asiedu Nketia has also had to change his stand after the NDC took a stand by announcing that local elections should not be based on party lines. On Good Morning Ghana today, Friday, April 29, 2022 Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongue was of the view that many Ghanaians shared a different opinion from the president and so the president has to shift from his position and do what the people wanted. He noted that the president was on one side and the people are also on the other side.

This assertion was debunked by Nana Akomea, the Director at STC who argued that Asiedu Nketia also held that same view of making local elections partisan. He pointed out that no president has had the guts to talk about this issue except Akufo-Addo and so it was bad for Ablakwa to say the president is standing against what the people want. According to Nana, Okudzeto was just talking and with this long talk he will prefer to go to sleep and come back rather than listen to Okudzeto’s long speech which sounded hypocritical.

These comments didn’t go down too well with Okudzeto who pointed out that he was in the studio to share his thoughts and not tow to the line of Nana Akomea. He explained that he considers Nana as his elder brother but will not accept it when Nana refers to his comments as bogus and that he will choose to go and sleep and come back. Okudzeto reiterated that as brothers they needed to respect each other’s opinion and not come to the studio or condemn each other because of politics.
