Angry supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Yendi have sworn to violently stop the party from electing constituency officers in the area over what they say is the attempt by the Member of Parliament (MP), Farouk Aliu Mahama, to steal the election.
They are accusing the MP of having orchestrated the removal of 123 names of party members he knows very well that he is not going to be able to remote control from the constituency album and replaced them with his cronies and this is something they have vowed not to allow to stand – they are going to resist that.
The Constituency Chairman, Abubakar Sadique, who is leading the charge, has publicly stated that there is no way they are going to play dead for anybody to swagger to the constituency election centre with the doctored album to conduct an election there.
This is not going to happen and that they are going to fiercely resist. “If they make the mistake and bring the discredited album to the centre, for sure, we will stop them.
We will resist the imposition of the album on the constituency.
We are not going to be cheated by anybody.” The MP has fallen out with the Constituency Chairman and they are battling it out to outdo each other.
Things could turn bloody and the Deputy Constituency Nasara Coordinator, Tamimu Abdul Hamid, is urging the party’s national leadership to act quickly to right things and prevent the situation from getting out of hand.
He says about 70 percent of the party people are unhappy about the way things are being done, the desperate manipulation to disenfranchise some of them and that many are seething with anger.
The album, he is warning, “is a recipe for disaster”.
The NPP constituency elections was disrupted in many parts of the country.
