All hopes to accomplish the season in flying colors were all a daydream for Manchester United – their 5th in a row.
Knocked out in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, the 4th round of the England FA Cup, far-fetched from the Premier League title, and round -3 of the EFL Cup which have already been scooped by Liverpool, the ‘Red Devils’ are finishing the season trophyless – their fifth season in a row after grabbing two trophies in the season 2016/2017 (the EFL Cup and Europa League glory).
At the 6th place in the league table with six points behind the fourth place (Arsenal), Manchester United’s top-four hopes look ‘unrealistic’ after recording just four points in their last five outings out of (15-points). Welcoming Chelsea at the Old Trafford this week, winning is not still guaranteed for the Champions League spot since the current 4th and 5th place will have an outstanding two games.
However, it will get them an inch closer, in case Arsenal or Tottenham trip in two or three of their remaining games. Departing interim manager Ralf Rangnick is also keen on leaving a good mark for reputation sake avenging the four consecutive league losses in a row from trips following their seven unbeaten streaks on ‘the Blues’.
As the records stand in ten meetings in all competitions, Manchester United holds the record of four wins against two and four draws.
Is there a chance of United extending the record on home soil?. Or your thoughts on this upcoming encounter. Who is winning?.
