The top-four finish looks likely settled between Arsenal and Tottenham after Manchester United got thrashed by the ‘Gunners’ at the Emirates Stadium today, a consecutive loss in a row after Liverpool’s humiliating defeat in midweek.
The ‘Red Devils’ now find themselves six points behind the fourth at the 6th place and with an outstanding game each for teams above them thus Arsenal and Tottenham, their hope of top-four seems to doubtful.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at six things we observed from Arsenal 3-1 Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo
Ronaldo could have won the man of the match honor if he was on the winning side. At age 37, he showed true class despite being in the news lately, seen shadowing Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes, making runs, and putting pressure on them. He was more of the target player today and got the consolation goal.Â
2. Victor Lindelof
Manchester United are having a defensive crisis lately and featuring the Swedish was the best option than Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, and Harry Maguire but he didn’t perform as expected was extremely poorly without making any relevant statistics. His pair Raphael Varane was very solid and did better to compare.
3. Bruno Fernandes
The Portuguese international was incredible and his performance was top-notch but quite disappointed at the end. At the point where the ‘Red Devils’ had the momentum to make it 2-2 at the 57th minute due to a handle committed by Cedric Soares, he hit the woodwork which got the team deflated and led to an additional goal. On a normal day, he was amazing but on the losing side, he did disappoint.
4. Bukayo Saka
The 20-year-old is indeed the future of the ‘Gunners’, his ability in holding onto the ball awaiting strikers with that chip pass, cut-ins, and having an eye for goal is magnificent. Got fouled in the 18-box, he confidently and comfortably sent David De Gea on the left side instead of the right doubling down on Nuno Tavares in the 32nd minute. He was the most astounding player and had the most shots (5) than any other player.
5. Jadon Sancho and Edward Nketiah
On the opposite side, the duo was very disappointing. Sancho’s performance doesn’t look like an €85M worth of player, aside from running with the ball, nothing extraordinary happened. Likewise, for Nketiah, he was more like a decoy although had a brace last time out. He only a shot on goal as the lead striker.
6. Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka
The connection between the duo in a couple of games now is worth speaking highly of. Thomas Partey would have to work hard from injury because there is competition in the holding role. Elneny and Xhaka’s understanding, communication, dynamism, and switching techniques accounted for today’s victory. Eventually, ended up involving a goal, a screamer from Xhaka off Elneny’s pass.
