Gone are the days of Asamoah Gyan, the striking force of the National Team now seen to be in good hands but in recent times it has been a major concern which was evident in the just ended AFCON campaign and the CAF World Cup qualification.
Four lead strikers were called to the National Team in Cameroon, and to recall only a goal was recorded between the forwards which ended the Blacks Stars’ hopes in the Group Stage without a win. Again in the just-ended World Cup qualification, the Stars also encountered woes in the attacking phase of the team but thanks to Thomas Partey’s magnificent strike from yards out, the Stars triumphed over the Super Eagles of Nigeria by an away goal. Jordan Ayew and young sensational striker Felix Afena-Gyan were the lead strikers but none of them did find the target in any of the legs.
Heading into the World Cup, and assessing the Black Stars of Ghana squad in recent games, the attacking force seems to be weak. Speaking of the lead strikers in the team – Felix Afena-Gyan and Jordan Ayew, they barely find the target in their respective teams this season. Jordan Ayew has featured in 30-outings in all competition with English side Crystal Palace and has found the back of the net twice, likewise, with Felix Afena-Gyan, he barely makes minutes in Italian outfit AS Roma and it’s a huge concern ahead of the World Cup. From observations Aside from Thomas Partey and Kudus Mohammed who have enhanced their reputation in Europe’s elite leagues, almost all the players involved are regarded as rising stars.
With that being said, the inclusion of Arsenal’s hot prospect Edward Nketiah will be a great addition. The 22-year-old although haven’t had enough minutes with ‘the Gunners’ this season featured in 15-league games of which two were starters, however, he seems to be a deadly and very reliable striker. Nketiah has made the most starters in the EFL Cup – four of which he has found the target on five occasions.
Edward Nketiah a few days ago hinted at being ready and willing to play for the Black Stars if the opportunity is given and in all things considered, he most definitely will fit in the perfectly given his encounter against Chelsea at the expense of Alexandre Lacazette in today’s league game where he bagged in twice in a 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge. His pace, positioning, and pressing ability were remarkable.
Nketiah is visionary, possesses the qualities of a world-class forward, and would do great things in the National Team. What do you think of his performance and statistics this season so far?.
