Black Stars General Captain Asamoah Gyan Teaches Players How To Score A Penalty

Despite missing penalty at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Black Stars general captain Asamoah Gyan has shared some penalty lessons with upcoming footballers across the world. The former Sunderland hitman revealed that to be able to score from the spot, a player has to move with the ball. This will help the player to measure where to slot the ball. Asamoah Gyan – affectionately called Baby Jet – added that a striker will have to time the movement of a defender before he can score easily in a game.

“You move where the ball is. That is how strikers score. There is lot of movement in the game. Sometimes I can just can into the center, come and go. Sometimes defenders anticipate a lot.” He explained on Citi TV. 

Asamoah Gyan failed to convert from the spot kick for Ghana when Black Stars engaged South American opponent Uruguay at the global football competition in South Africa. Black Stars of Ghana were awarded a penalty after Luis Surez had denied a goal bound ball with his hands. That provided a glorious occasion for Black Stars to become the first African side to reach World Cup semis but the missed opportunity saw Ghana exiting at the quarter finals. Asamoah Gyan has expressed regret following that incident and was ready to make amends when time could be rolled back. 

Innumerable players across the globe have had to deal with post football issues as a result of missing penalties. Asamoah Gyan indicted that there are instances where a best penalty taker could squander a penalty opportunity but that does not make the player a bad one. He referenced how Black Stars lost Nations Cup trophy due to penalty kicks in the finals. 

Speaking on Ghana’s chances in this year’s World Cup to be staged in Qatar, Asamoah Gyan explained what ought to be done by the team on the field in order to thrive in the competition. 

“My worry right now is for the team to create chances. We have great players now and we need to create chances. We have to get to the quarters in the World Cup and see how we can go.”
