The residents of Afrancho Mfanyuame, a town within the Kwabre North District of Ashanti Region are allegedly suffering from skin rashes as a result of a poisonous waste dumping site that situated in the middle of the community.Â
Information gathered at the town had it that the dumping site have been operational in the town for years but no one cares for its removal.
It was indicated that the authorities and the management of the said refuse site are allegedly aware about the dangers that pose to the residents, they have kept silent.
Some of the residents living closer to the said refuse site who spoke to the correspondent stressed that they have to spray their rooms with strong detergents to reduce the scent before they could sleep in the nights.
They alleged further that the chemicals used to treat the waste are also health unfriendly, thus causing health risks to those living closer to the dumping site.
A private entrepreneur who operates a medium size rubber industry at the town and was alleged to be partly responsible for the refuse challenges confronting the town was not available for his reaction.
However some of his workers who were managing the refuse site bemoaned that efforts are been made to solve the problems.
They also indicated that a mass spraying exercise would soon take place in the town to avoid any epidemic which might otherwise occur in the area.
