“Don’t Bang Too Much Hope on The Black Stars” – Ex-Ghana Striker

Ghana made a dramatic qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup after edging past West African rivals, Nigeria.

The Black Stars earned an away goal rule after a two leg tie against the Super Eagles in Kumasi and Abuja. The first leg produced a goalless draw at the Baba Yara Stadium Stadium on March 25 where both sides failed to glitter. The second leg was staged at the Moshood Abiola Stadium four days after the first on March 29. Thomas Partey scored for Ghana before Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong equalized to end the game at 1-1. The Black Stars however qualified via the away goal and be making their fourth appearance at the Mundial but former captain, Asamoah Gyan says Ghanaians should measure their expectations.

“If I’m a coach and my team goes to the field and we don’t create chances enough, me the coach will be worried. “I want my team to create chances and miss but when we miss, we know we will be able to create some opportunities and everything and that’s a positive thing. “When you don’t create at all, everybody is watching and you don’t create at all, I will be worried.

“This is a new generation altogether and sometimes when we are going to play, you don’t know where the goals are going to come from. “It’s a new team that we are building, you see new faces, young players, it’s a new team, we should lower expectations.” Asamoah Gyan said.
