The minister of Trade and Agriculture, Owusu Afriyie Akoto has received some criticisms by the Executive Director of Media foundation for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah over an alleged untrue statements made by the minister recently.
Speaking on Joy News this morning, Sulemana Braimah revealed that the Agric Minister has been throwing dust into the eyes of Ghanaians. He stated that the minister makes false statements for political gains. He boldly revealed three key statements made by Owusu Afriyie Akoto which are not true.
“For example, if you take our soya beans production, the Minister on February 3rd, in a meeting with Tony Blay revealed out a false information that before 2017 when this government came into power, Ghana was producing less than 100,000 metric tonnes of soya beans a year. This was false” he stated.
“And then he went on to say that since coming into power, the soya bean production has increased to a quarter of a million metric tonnes, which again is false because the latest figures by his own indicates that even as at 2020 where the figures were available, we were not doing up to 210,000 metric tonnes” he added.
“He talks about maize production in another encounter and on this occasion he contradicted himself interns of what he tells Parliament and what he says during vetting to be a minister when it comes to maize production. He talks about that we were doing 1.8 metric tonnes of maize production before 2017. This was false because the world bank figures indicates as at 2012 shows that were doing as high as 1.95 metric tonnes” he said.
Sulemana believes that it is time for Ghanaians to know the full truth on various issues of the country.
