Do You Know Of The “Dancing Epidemic”? Read What It Did To People Which Will Leave You Marvelled.

Many countries have experienced many different kinds of epidemics thousands of centuries ago and still is experiencing epidemics for which the covid 19 evolved to be a pandemic out of the blue hitting the world at large. An Epidemic is defined as the rapid spread of disease to a large number of hosts in a given population within a short period of time. This can be a small community or town or a country.

In this article, I bring to you one of the deadliest epidemics which happened in Strasbourg, a city in France in 1518. This epidemic was known as the “Dancing Epidemic” or “The Dance Plague” for it made all those affected by the virus dancing all day. Investigators in the 20th century suggested that the afflicted might have consumed bread made from rye flour contaminated with the fungal disease ergot, which is known to produce convulsions. This epidemic tended to kill 400 people within a short period as they kept on dancing till they are killed.
