Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed was a Member of Parliament for Nanton Constituency in the sixth Parliament of the fourth Republic of Ghana. He lost the seat in 2016 to the NPP’s Mohammed Hardi Tuferu, but in the 2020 election, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed contested and won the Tamale Central parliamentary seat.
On today’s (5th December 2022) episode of the ‘New Day’ program on TV3, the Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kamal Deen Abdulai, in his submission stated that his co-panelist, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, has set a record in the north for being an MP for two constituencies.
“My brother (Murtala Mohammed) sitting here is a Parliamentarian, and has been a Parliamentarian in my constituency, when we pushed him out, he went and became a new Parliamentarian. He has set a record in the north anyways.”
Comrade Ibrahim Murtala, in his response to Kamal Deen Abdula, I said that;
“Kamal, you’ve started this year so badly on this program. What have your comments got to do with you booting me out? At least, I contested primaries and won and lost the elections, but you lost the primaries.”
According to Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, when Kamal Deen Abdulai lost the NPP’s parliamentary primaries he told him as a brother and console him with the words of Richard Nixon that he should take comfort that he failed, but he shouldn’t quit.
“Today, having sympathized and empathize with him at that defeat at the parliamentary primaries, he is now trying to mock me, but it’s fine.” Comrade Ibrahim Murtala added.
