More details have emerged on the next Cash and Carry Mall that got burnt in Abuja on Sunday, December 26, 2021.
According to reports, the multi-million naira store is owned by the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.
In a video circulating on social media, dozens of people were seen carrying goods out of the mall during the fire incident.
The video generated a lot of reactions as many users condemned those carrying goods from the burning store.
However, new information has shown that the video circulating on social media is a one-sided story and doesn’t show the truth of the matter.
According to a Twitter user who was present at the scene on Sunday evening, those seen in the video carrying goods out of the burning mall were actually helpers and not looters, as perceived by many social media users.
The new video posted on Twitter showed that many patriotic Nigerians stormed the side of the mall where the fire hadn’t touched, evacuated goods worth millions of naira, and gathered them in a safe place until the police arrived on the scene.Â
Although a few people tried to loot the goods, they were apprehended and handed over to the police.Â
It is unfortunate that those who posted the first video on social media pushed a different narrative. Many of the people in the video were actually patriotic Nigerians who were trying to help and not looters.Â
The development showed the effects of fake news and one-sided stories. Lies and fake news travel faster than the truth.Â
Before passing out our judgments, we should always seek the other side of a story.Â
Let’s help share this article to counter the false narrative in circulation.Â
