Former Manchester United winger, Antonio Valencia had a career to remember, especially during his time as a Manchester United player. His career was a revolution as he started out as a winger, but retired as a right-back.

Valencia has been off the scene since his retirement. Maybe because he never took the managerial or administrative path, but he still lives a good life and is doing well for himself. He’s mostly seen at the gym, a lifestyle footballers find difficult to abandon because fitness has become a part of them.

The Ecuadorian also does some endorsement stuff as he’s been seen on commercials for a betting company. Retirement has obviously affording him quality time with family and the chance to visit some beautiful islands.

Leaving England was not an easy decision for Valencia, but eventually, he left for LQD Quito, a club in Ecuador. At some point, he thought about returning to England, even if it was going to be in the lower division. It wasn’t just easy to leave a country you have lived in for the past thirteen years.

He later began to struggle with some knee injuries. Valencia would have really loved to spend more time in football, but his knee was a stumbling block. He later made up his mind and decided to call time on his career.

“I will never forget everything I experienced at Old Trafford. I will never forget every goal, every trophy and the wonderful fans. I did not think this moment would come so soon, but my body has asked me to make this decision. I am announcing my retirement from football”.

Valencia’s first taste of European football was with La Liga side, Villarreal in 2005. He could only make two appearances for them as he was mostly farmed out on loan. Wigan Athletics of England then decided to sign Valencia permanently after two brilliant years on loan with them.

It was from Wigan that he joined Manchester United in 2009 and the rest was history. He spent ten amazing years at United with nine trophies to show for it. We wish him the best in his future endeavors and hope to see him back in the limelight.
