It was an outstanding display by Rafa Benitez’s Everton as they came from behind to beat a strong Arsenal side at home. Goals from Richarlison and Gray was enough to gift Everton all three points at Goodison Park.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal started the game well and was arguably the better side in the first half of the game, dominating possession and having more shots on target.
After a chance creation, Arsenal finally took the lead in the 45th minute of the game when Martin Odegaard scored with his left foot to put Arsenal in front.
Everton striker, Richarlison was in good form in today’s game but luck was not on his side. Richarlison scored two beautiful goals that could have helped Everton win or secure a point from the game but was unlucky as VAR ruled out his goals.
The Video Assistance Referee was active in today’s clash at Goodison Park as it took two crucial decisions that could have impacted the outcome of the game.
After winning a freekick right at the end of the first half, Richarlison went on to score from the spot-kick but saw his goal cancelled by VAR after review.
Richarlison was slightly onside before scoring the goal hence why the goal shouldn’t have been cancelled by the Video assistance referee.
Everton came prepared in the second half with improved performance. Richarlison was once again found the net after a nice pass from Gomes but again his goal was cancelled for an offside.
A critical look at the second offside incident showed that Richarlison was an inch onside before receiving the ball. The Brazilian winger right leg was slightly behind Gabriel by a fraction which shouldn’t have been ruled out for an offside.
Fortunately for Everton, Richarlison finally scored after a third attempt to equalize for Everton and Gray wrapped it up late in the game to win the three points for Everton.
Despite VAR controversial decisions that went in favour of Arsenal, Everton still fought hard to secure all three points at home.
