Uganda has sent a message to her soldiers in Somalia over what is being planned by al-Shabaab militants.

Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) is one of the many forces that are still in Somalia under AMISOM, fighting alongside the Somali National Army(SNA) with an aim of ending terrorism in the Horn of Africa and East Africa at large.

Al-Shabaab is the main enemy in Somalia that gives AMISOM forces sleepless nights, and according to emerging intelligence reports, the militants could be planning no good this December.

The Deputy Chief of UPDF, Lt Gen Peter Elwelu has today sent a message to Somalia, asking UPDF soldiers to be extra vigilant during this festive season.

General Peter revealed that al-Shabaab is planning to carry out a series of attacks and inflict pain on AMISOM forces, this need for AMISOM soldiers to stay away all the time.

Lt Gen Elwelu made the remarks on Friday while speaking to over 2,500 soldiers at the closure of the 13th Pre-Mission Ideological Training and flag-off of BG-XXXVI and UNGU-VIII at Peace Support Operations Training Centre, Singo in Nakaseke District in Uganda, and urged soldiers to be alert all the time.

He also asked UPDF soldiers to work closely with other security teams in Somalia and share intelligence to stay ahead of the enemy.

Kenya Defence Forces are one of the forces in Somalia that also work under AMISOM with Ugandan soldiers.

Even the groups work from different regions, they share crucial information because they do fight the same enemy.

As ordinary citizens, it is always good that we pray for our soldiers as they fight to secure our borders.
