Demi Lovato today announced to their fans that they are non-binary and are changing their pronouns from she/her to they/them.
“Over the past year-and-a-half, I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I’ve had the revelation that I identify as non-binary. With that said, I’ll be officially changing my pronouns to they/them,” Lovato, 28, announced in a video on Twitter as they introduced their new podcast, 4D with Demi Lovato.
The American singer and actor added: “I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am, and am still discovering.”
Every day we wake up, we are given another opportunity & chance to be who we want & wish to be. I’ve spent the majority of my life growing in front of all of you… you’ve seen the good, the bad, & everything in between. pic.twitter.com/HSBcfmNruo

Lovato, in subsequent tweets, said that they decided to announce after a lot of “healing & self-reflective work”: “I’m still learning & coming into myself, & I don’t claim to be an expert or a spokesperson. Sharing this with you now opens another level of vulnerability for me,” they said.
“I’m doing this for those out there that haven’t been able to share who they truly are with their loved ones. Please keep living in your truths & know I am sending so much love your way xox”
Lovato has often described their sexuality as fluid and has said they are open to finding love with someone of any gender. In July 2020, they labeled themself queer in a social media statement mourning the death of their Glee co-star Naya Rivera.
In March 2021, Lovato came out as pansexual and sexually fluid, stating in an interview, “I’ve always known I was hella queer, but I have fully embraced it.” In the same interview, they called themself “just too queer” to date men at the time. They expressed that they feel proud of belonging to what they called the “alphabet mafia”, referring to the LGBT community.
