The Ghana Police Service is set to monitor every radio network and other platforms while it conducts it’s routine operations tonight. The Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori has indicated that a number of police officers have been detailed at certain points for the New Year eve, and especially for the 31st night watch night.

He sounded pretty serious in an interview on Metro News Today when he was questioned about the mechanisms the Police has deployed to check on religious organisation during the New Year eve, in respect of doom propheices. The caution had already been sounded by the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, and there was no need explaining further, ACP Kwesi Ofori stressed.

But in his announcement of the internal strategy the Police will deploy tonight, ACP Ofori said the Police had enhanced it’s surveillance and patrols for the night and that no man of God would be left spared should they go against the directives of the IGP. He reiterated that the Police is not against anyone’s faith but interested in protecting lives of the Ghanaian people against the exploitation of false prophets.

“Our men are everywhere and we shall be monitoring every single activity across the country. We know that some men of God have concerns about the directive but it’s best they abide by them so they don’t fall foul of the law. We are not against prophecies.”

ACP Ofori reiterated that law will be enforced to the latter and that no exception would be made for any person who breaches the directive. Already, some renowned prophets like Nigel Gaisie, Salifu Amoako, and Joshua Adjei have criticized the directive as anti-christian and an infringement on individual rights of worship.

Human Rights lawyer, and parliamentarian, Mr. Francis Xavier Sosu had argued that the directive by the IGP and Police are undemocratic and without any legal barring to be enforced. He thus threatened a legal action to diffuse this directive of the Police.
