Radio presenters and deejays (DJs) interface and work with musicians and players in the music industry to deliver relevant music to the listening public.
The close collaboration between musicians and radio presenters and deejays, without a doubt is critical for the betterment of the music industry.
It is thus not surprising that some radio presenters have taken advantage of their interactions with music people to launch themselves onto the music landscape.
Below is a list of Ghanaian radio presenters who have made and/or released music to music lovers in the course of their radio career.
1. Black Rasta– The award-winning reggae Deejay is also an accomplished reggae singer with a string of reggae songs to his credit.
Some include: ‘Sakina’, ‘Agyanka ba’, ‘Kwame Nkrumah’, ‘Gaddafi feat Fiifi Selah’ and ‘Bloody Museveni feat Bobi Wine’. Black Rasta, currently at Accra based Zylofon 102.9fm famously released a song ‘Barack Obama’ for former US President Barack Obama as he ran for the President of the United States. He was even honoured at a dinner held for Barack Obama in 2011 for the song.
2. Trigmatic: Trigmatic is by all standards a very good rapper and musician famous for his hit song “my life” which won him Rapper of the year in 2011. He has been a radio presenter with Accra-based Y fm for years now and continues to release good songs every now and then.
His latest work being the remix of ‘my life’ which featured Worlasi, M.anifest and A.I.
3. Fiifi Selah(Scooby Selah): The founding member of defunct music groups ‘Sass Squad’ and ‘TH4Kwages’ is another artiste who doubles as radio presenter and was programmes manager at Pluzz fm.
Scooby Selah was the lead singer for both ‘Sass Squad’ and ‘TH4Kwages’ and credited with writing hit songs such as ‘Nana Esi’, ‘Serwaa’, ‘Taxi Driver’ and others.
He’s also featured on Obrafour’s hit song ‘asem sebe’ and a classical lovers rock song-“you stole my heart” by Daasebre Gyamenah.
Scooby Selah, real name is Emmanuel Botchwey, an old student of the famous Adisadel College won RTP Reggae show host of the year for his reggae show on Pluzz fm named “Reggae Embassy”.
4. Caroline Sampson: The sexy presenter can be considered as one of the radio presenters who could not take her music far enough.
That notwithstanding, she had a memorable feature on the remix of Asem’s popular hit song-‘pigaro’. Caroline currently works at Asaase Radio as host of “ten2one”.
5. Andy Dosty: His real name is Andrew Amoh. He is a musician, a DJ and Radio Presenter. In 2017, he took over as the host of Daybeak Hitz on Hitz FM. He is a recipient of the 2019 National Communications Awards Radio Personality of the Year. Some of his songs include; Love You Die, 1k and Brenya.
