A Toyota Hilux Car with registration number GN 1940 – 21 was last night seized and driven away by gun wielding men who attacked Target Hill, a surburb of Tamale, the Northern Regional Capital. Other valuable properties in the car were also taken away. A report has already been made to the police and investigations are already underway.
Tamale has become notorious and thriving ground for carjackers as this recent theft is the fifth or so in many months that vehicles have been seized by gunmen. Last month, a brand new Toyota V8 Land cruiser belonging to Hajia Sawdatu, a popular restaurant operator in the Metropolis was also seized by gunmen. The men who stormed her house at Jisonaayili also made away with 8,000 Cedis cash amount and reportedly beat up her son who initially refused to handover the key of the car to them. Previously, another brand new Toyota Prado car belonging to a popular pastor who resides at Kanvili was also stolen at gunpoint with the robbers making away as well with valuable documents and 3,000 cedis cash amount. Nothing has been heard of those cars since they were taken away even though reports were duly lodged with the police.
