A couple of months ago, Otumfour was struck with the sudden death of the paramount chief of Ofinso Traditional Area. While His Royal Majesty was preparing to bury one of his kinsmen, Asanteman is thrown into a state of mourning again. This follows the untimely demise of Barima Bretwum Okyere Bediako II, paramount chief of Sekyere Kwaman Traditional Area. He died on 21st December at Konongo Odumase Goverment Hospital after he sustained severe injuries from a crash on the Accra-Kumasi high way.

It will be recalled that CitizenOne reported the demise of the paramount chief of Sekyere Kwaman on 21st December 2021.

According to earlier reports, the paramount chief was on his way to Accra on the said date when the unfortunate incident occurred.

The police report had it that, the chief was part of the four occupants in a Subaru Outback 4×4 vehicle with registration number 4446-CD-21. The reports suggest the vehicle was running at top speed overtaking several vehicles along the road.

Upon reaching a section of the road at Odumasi three lane near the Leon Bird Steel factory, on the main Konongo-Kumasi motor road, the driver tried overtaking a fleet of vehicles at a go. But in the process, the overtaking vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota Hiace mini bus, with registration number ER 88-21 which was coming from the opposite direction. All four occupants sustained life threatening injuries and were conveyed to the hospital. Moments later, three of them including the chief were pronounced dead by doctors. The driver was however transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to continue treatment after losing both legs. The other two casualties were identified as Ernest Osei Obeng and Lydia Asare 38 and 42 respectively.

The bodies of the deceased were deposited at the Stewards hospital morgue, Yawkwei for preservation at the time.

Our hearts go out to the people of Asanteman in this state of mourning. We encourage road users to observe all road safety protocols to reduce the carnage.

CitizenOne will give followers the needed updates in subsequent editions.
