Ahead of official announcement of Black Stars squad for Nations Cup by Milovan Rajevac, some local players have made a huge case for their inclusion into the list. After 9 matches into the season, these players could be invited and possibly included in the final list of players.
David Abagna of Real Tamale United currently sits top of goal king chart in the Ghana Premier League. The forward was given little attention prior to the commencement of the local league, but he has demonstrated what he could offer, should he be given the needed opportunity. The former Ashanti Gold and WA All Stars player has scored 8 goals so far. Of the 12 goals scored by Real Tamale United, 8 of them are attributed to his blistering form. His energy, power and scoring prowess could be of benefit to the Senior National team.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is another player who deserves an invite for the tournament. Known for his speed and power on the flanks, Abdul Fatawu makes a great addition to the team. His previous call up has exposed him to how things work at the National team. That experience – coupled with his corrosive form for Dreams FC in the local campaign – make him an obvious choice for AFCON. As a winger, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has 6 league goals to his credit, staging a keen competition with strikers. As a star for the future after playing an integral role in Ghana’s AFCON triumph at the youth level, next year’s Africa Cup of Nations is a tournament that could birth his experience at the bigger stage.
The goalkeeping area can boast of Razak Abalora and Richard Atta of Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak respectively. Richard Atta has had the opportunity to be with the National team in recent games. Those invites are fresh for his inclusion into the provisional and final squad for Nations Cup. In the domestic league, Razak Abalora made a superlative start for Asante Kotoko with enviable records of clean sheets, but the manner in which he conceded in matches against King Faisal, Real Tamale United and Legon Cities could shoot down his inclusion. Richard Attah has kept clean sheets in the last two games against Elmina Sharks and Accra Lions.
Mohammed Alhassan and Abdul Ganiu of Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko respectively have made constant efforts to be included in the national team. Whereas Abdul Ganiu has enjoyed a stint, Mohammed Alhassan may have his time now.
