A Private Legal Practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has stated that he supports the covid-19 vaccinations, but the government should be careful not to use the Vaccinations to tramp people’s rights in Ghana.

Martin Kpebu made this statement on ‘THE KEYPOINTS’ program on TV3 this morning, 18th December 2021, when he gave his opinion on the supposed mandatory vaccinations by the government of Ghana for all persons entering the borders of Ghana.

According to Martin Kpebu, if a Ghanaian is coming into the country, he or she has the right to return home even if the person refuses to take the covid-19 vaccination.

“To be very clear, I support vaccination, but let’s also be careful that we don’t use it to tramp people’s right.”

Martin Kpebu indicated that if a person is a citizen of Ghana and wants to return to Ghana from abroad, he has the right to return home, and it’s in Article 21 of the constitution of Ghana. So, we cannot just send them away due to vaccinations.

Martin Kpebu suggested that in the meantime, once nobody has gone to court, and we don’t know what the courts are saying, it is good for the government to appeal to people’s conscience so that when they feel respected, they are more likely to take the vaccines and will not fight than to use the mandatory vaccination to jab them by force.

Martin Kpebu revealed that if the government jabs somebody today by force and the person goes to court subsequently, and the court says it’s wrong, it means that the government will be paying compensations.

So, it is safer for the government to minimize the risk of the judgment debt and increase behavioral change through education and adverts to appeal to people to take the vaccines than to insist on mandatory vaccination.
