According to him, the genre which is now the newest sensation in the Ghanaian music scene wouldn’t have gained popularity in Ghana if not for his efforts in establishing the genre in Ghana.

In a tweet, Showboy who is currently serving a jail term in the United States of America, Georgia for attempted murder stated that he snubbed the Highlife, hip hop, Afrobeats, and other genres in order for the Trap and Drill genre to reign in Ghana.

He wrote; There wouldn’t be trap /Drill music in ghana if it wasn’t for showboy … always put some respect on bombo yiee …. I said fuck afro beatz , fuck hip hop raps … fuck high life .. lets trap , live the life n talk about streetz …lol they outside am still inside …2hypegang

Drill music is a trap music genre characterized by its ominous trap-influenced beats and dark, aggressive, and nihilistic lyrical content. Drill gained popularity in the United States in mid-2012, thanks to the success of rappers and producers such as Young Chop, Chief Keef, Lil Durk, King Louie, DomBoy2k, Fredo Santana, and Lil Reese, who all had large local followings and a strong online presence.
