The children had stormed the premises of the priestess this dawn to demand answers from her for allegedly assaulting their father at the local information centre who was only evangelising to the community. Elder Opoku Acheampong had received some dirty slaps from the priestess and the husband after he condemned idol worship with some biblical texts.
Okomfour Asantewaa had a day earlier confronted a street evangelist named Okyere Jeremiah, over the same issue she had with the Pentecost Elder. According to reports, Evangelist Okyere Jeremiah defied a warning from the fetish Priestess over his persistent attack on her idol worship.
But the rather stubborn young evangelist dared to provoke the hostile Okomfour Asantewaa by mounting his sound system in the community and citing biblical text to lambast idol worshipers. According to local reporters, the preaching was conveyed in a manner that was insulting to the festish Priestess, and so she stormed the ground and vandalised the equipment of the evangelist.
This was followed with some kicks and slaps on Evangelist Jeremiah and his assistants. They were badly beaten in public and this caused a rather terrible scene in the community. The priestess is heard to have argued that she is not against any worship but for anyone to insult her directly or indirectly for her choice of worship, she will fight back.
Okomfour Asantewaa’s house is said to be a few metres away from the information centre, and as such every word that is said could be heard from that distance. It is believed that she had monitored the activities of these evangelists for long.
The police have taken up investigations into the matter, while the victims of the violence are receiving treatment at the Dabaa health facility.
