We Will Reject The E-Levy And Come And Apologize To You Later – Murtala Mohammed Tells Asantehene

The Member of Parliament for the Tamale Central Constituency, Comrade Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, has indicated that if rejecting the E-Levy will put the minority MPs in a bad light with Otumfuo Osei Tutu, they will reject it and later come and apologize to him.

Murtala Mohammed made this statement on the ‘New Day’ program on TV3 this morning, 14th December 2021, when he gave his opinion about the statement by the Asantehene concerning the brouhaha ongoing at Parliament about the 2022 budget.

According to Murtala Mohammed, he didn’t think that the Asantehene’s statement suggested that the minority Members of Parliament are doing the wrong thing by holding the government accountable.

Murtala Mohammed indicated that he doesn’t think that the statement of Otumfuo Osei Tutu is also suggestive that they should compromise accountability, transparent governance, and holding the executive government to account to the people of this country including his self because the Asantehene is also part of a constituent and also has representatives.

Murtala Mohammed stated that he thinks the Asantehene is suggesting is that they may do the politicking, they may hold the executive accountable, but they shouldn’t overdo it.

“The point I want to make is that, under no circumstances are we going to compromise the dehumanizing conditions under which this government is subjecting the people of this country. The E-Levy is completely unacceptable.”

So, with all due respect to his Royal Highness Otumfuo Osei Tutu, they’ve listened to his advice, but they will not compromise holding the government accountable.

“As matter of fact, if it had to do with the rejection of the E-Levy that will put us in a very bad light, we may do that and come and apologize to you, but we must hold this government accountable.”

Murtala Mohammed added that what the government has presented to the country is nothing but tyranny, they can’t describe it as a budget.
