Ghana recently organized her elections and with just one year gone, political parties are lacing their boots for 2024. For the NDC it is not so much of a competition as John Mahama is expected to remain the flagbearer. The race to who becomes the flagbearer for the ruling New Patriotic Party is where all the action will be.

The race started right after the NPP won the much disputed 2020 elections. Many big wigs have shown interest in the primaries. There are indications that Kennedy Agyapong, Boakye Agyarko, Joe Ghartey, Akoto Afriyie all intend to compete. The main contention however will be between Alan Kyeremateng’s and Vice President Bawumia.

In a post on Facebook, Kevin Taylor has indicated that Peter Amewu, the Minister of Railway Development will partner Alan Kyerematen in the 2024 elections. It is unclear how Kevin came by the information but with recent happenings it won’t be surprising. It can be recalled that Bawumia promised that by 2020 there will be sky trains operating in Ghana. Few years later, Peter Amewu has come out to say that there will be no possibility of sky trains operating in the any time soon.

Many see this as a tactical blow to the camp of Bawumia. The Alan camp might want to gain more votes this time from the Volta Region, a place they have failed to impress. Peter Amewu is the first NPP person to win a seat in the Volta Region.
