It was really an interesting discussion on Joy News AM show yesterday, December 7, 2021. Amidst the talks surrounding the spike in fuel prices, that lead to Monday’s Nationwide Demonstration by Commercial Transport Drivers, the 2022 Budget continues to reign as the most trending and worth discussing issue in Ghana. The brouhaha and controversies surrounding the budget remain debatable, and currently, there is a limited time to come into an agreement, so that the country can have a statement to work with next year.

What most people do not realize is that there is so much pressure on the Finance Ministry, and the Minority Caucus, who are truly representing Ghanaians in a practical sense, and not willing to give in to any cheap contract, all in the name of politics and propaganda.

Speaking on Joy News’ AM show this morning, the Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Kumah highlighted how the government gave Ghanaians some freebies like water, electricity and the likes last year, as a responsive measure to mitigate the impacts of the Coronavirus Pandemic on Ghanaians. This, according to him had a strain on the economy so there is the need for government to generate more revenues to rejuvenate it, and parachute it to a higher height, as expected by Ghanaians.

However, the Member of Parliament for Tamale North Constituency, Hon. Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini totally disgraces. He believes that the government enticed Ghanaians with Free Electricity and Free Water just to win their political rights. This, according to him, possibly led to their victory in the 2020 elections, in contrast to the economic rationale raised by the Deputy Finance Minister.

When the host of the program, Animwaa Anim-Addo realized that Hon. Suhuyini was going astray and complicating the agenda set for discussion, she bold said: “I don’t agree with you”.

She therefore prevented the Honourable MP from making further allegations on the subject matter, and saved him from sabotaging the NPP government.
