Pupils of Hordzo Ve JHS in the Ho Municipality will now have access to quality education in a serene environment after they received a modern 3-unit classroom block with an ICT lab.
The project forms part of CalBank and the Xornam Foundation’s programme, which aims at offering educational assistance to deprived communities.
For over two decades, pupils of Hordzo JHS, have been studying in a dilapidated structure.
The situation over the years has led to some pupils moving to other schools in the municipality, while those who have no option continue to study here.
To alleviate their plight, CalBank together with Xornam Foundation, have constructed a 3-unit classroom block with an ICT lab to facilitate teaching and learning.
Speaking in an interview with Citi Business News after the commissioning and handing over ceremony of the classroom block, Managing Director of CalBank, Philip Owiredu, said, his outfit is determined to eliminate illiteracy in the country, hence the decision to put up a better structure for the pupils.
He added that, the world has advanced in the technological era, hence the need to support Ghanaian children to equip themselves with the required ICT skills to enable them to be competitive.
“Today’s key educational focus is Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths, and it is our belief that this support will improve the fortune of students from this community.”
“CalBank has, over the years, supported over 50 underprivileged students to have access to quality education”, he added.
Founder of the Xornam Foundation noted that, they are ready to help more communities and deprived and called for more funding.
“We are hoping that we get more funding and reach out to more people because we have received lots of information on other pupils learning under bad or poor structures.”
According to her, the “challenge was to provide the school a new classroom block in 2018 after a visit shows how bad the structure was for teaching and learning”.
Headmaster of Hodzo Ve Basic School, Mr Avakame Fred, speaking to Citi Business News, noted that, “the school since its establishment in 1981 has seen little to no renovation and used an old pavilion constructed over 2 decades.”
He further expressed his gratitude to the Xornam Foundation and CalBank for their kind gesture.
