Ensure retention of value chain of bauxite resources

Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources has charged the newly inaugurated board of Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) to ensure the retention of the full value chain of bauxite in the country.

He reiterated the importance of the board as one at the heart of the forward march of the country.

He said ” We cannot develop without an industrialised economy and you cannot also industrialize if you do not have an integrated and developed bauxite and aluminium industry, it’s just not possible”.

He added that the integration aspect of the industry is one that is of paramount interest to the President and therefore charged the board to do all it takes to ensure the retention of the full value chain of bauxite resources in the country.

Speaking at the inauguration of the board for the GIADEC Board on Thursday, September 2, 2021, the Minister also tasked the board to ensure that by the end of their tenure, they would have instituted a vibrant aluminium industry in Ghana.

He, however indicated his absolute confidence in the Board Chair and its members to deliver on the mandate handed them by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the people of Ghana.

He added that he has no doubt that the composition of this board is one which is well placed to discharge the huge responsibility bestowed on them with panache and finesse.

On his part, the Chairman of the Board, Dr. Anthony Oteng Gyasi expressed his appreciation to the President on behalf of the board and promised to serve the administration and deliver results.

Responding to the Minister’s charge for board to ensure a full value chain of bauxite, Dr. Gyasi disclosed, ” taking control of Bauxite resources is not going to be an easy job but we’ll strive hard to make this dream a reality”

He therefore craved the support of the Hon. Minister to push against the existing push backs which will deprive the good people of Ghana of their resources. He also gave the assurance that he and his members will get the work done as advised by the Minister.

The other Board members include Hon. George Mireku Duker, a Deputy for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr.Michael Ansah, the CEO of GIADEC, Martin Kwaku Ayisi, Minerals Commission Representative, Hon. Abena Osei-Asare, Jaezi Orleans-Linsey Esq, Dr. Henry Benyah, Nana Adutwumwaa Dokua-Okyehemaa, Nana Amampene Boateng Twum II ( Nyinahinhene) and a representative from the Integrated Aluminum Industry.
