Aug. 31 (UPI) — The Resident star Emily VanCamp is leaving the show after four seasons.

Entertainment Weekly reported Monday that VanCamp, 35, has exited the Fox series ahead of Season 5.

Deadline confirmed VanCamp’s departure. Sources said efforts to bring VanCamp back in Season 5 fell through but that the actress may return as a guest star in the future.

VanCamp played Nicolette “Nic” Nevin on the medical drama. The character’s storyline is expected to be wrapped up early on in Season 5.

Fox shared a teaser for the Season 5 premiere Monday that hints at Nic’s fate. The season premieres Sept. 21.

News of VanCamp’s exit follows her announcement last week that she and Josh Bowman, her husband and former Revenge co-star, welcomed their first child, daughter Iris.

“Welcome to the world our sweet little Iris. Our hearts are full,” VanCamp wrote on Instagram.

VanCamp had kept her pregnancy secret.

VanCamp is also known for playing Rebecca Harper on Brothers & Sisters and Emily Thorne on Revenge. She portrays Sharon Carter in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and other projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
