Mother of Ghanaian transgender, Maxine has risen to the defence of her daughter with the explanation that her decision to identify with a different gender does not make her less of a human.
According to her, she used to have strong reservations about her son’s decision to be identified as female but she has come to understand and accept her choice.
She insisted that people who practise LGBTQI should not be discriminated against but be accepted by all since they were all created in the image of God.
Maxine’s mother disagreed with the Bill to criminalize activities of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer etc in Ghana.
She discouraged people who point accusing fingers at people practising LGBTQI to stop since it is their choice. She added that she supports her daughter ( who was originally born a boy).
According to her, the problems plaguing the growth and development of Ghana do not include what an individual has chosen to do with his or her body in private.
