Popular Ghanaian disc jockey, DJ Ashmen has expressed his displeasure with how t2-year-old DJ, Erica Tandoh, known as DJ Switch has been introduced to such a vocation at such a young age, claiming that it amounted to child labour.

According to DJ Ashmen, the 12-year-old disc jockey shouldn’t have been introduced to such a vocation which requires working throughout the night at that age.

In his view, she should have been given more time to gain experience and skill before being introduced to disc jockeying.

Talking about being awarded the Best DJ of the Year in 2019 and Young DJ of the Year in 2020 for the second year in a row, DJ Ashmen posited that DJ Switch should be given more time to gain experience and skill before receiving awards.

He, however, criticized the voting process used by the organizers of the Ghana DJ Awards, arguing that the winners should be chosen solely on the basis of their expertise, allowing the proper people to win.

DJ Ashmen speaking exclusively to Elsie Lamar on Talkertainment said;

“She could earn the most votes, therefore she’ll win automatically. However, if an award system like the Ghana DJ Awards intends to judge a DJ’s success based on their experience, I don’t think she has a chance. Because she is in the same category as mature and experienced DJs, I believe they may make a difference by looking at the person’s experience rather than voting.”
